“National solidarity and identity can be achieved through the revival and promotion of Afghan art, literature, history and music”

Culture

For centuries, Afghanistan has been known for its diversity in culture, craftsmanship, and talent. It can be seen in its beautiful rugs and intricate embroidery and expressed in rich poetry and music. A shared sense of Afghan history and identity and, ultimately, national solidarity can be achieved through the preservation, revival and promotion of Afghan art, literature, history and music. The Zaher Shah Foundation aims to support locally-run training and vocational programs and help renew and revitalise all forms of cultural expression.

The Foundation would like to establish an Afghan Cultural Awareness Centre which will train craftsmen and help promote Afghan products and crafts, with the intention of channelling these crafts to domestic and international markets. The program would not only help preserve certain crafts but ensure that the craftsmen and artists are able to attain a sustainable livelihood.
