Peace
HM Mohammed Zaher Shah, Afghanistan’s former king and “Father of the Nation” was dedicated throughout his life to creating the conditions necessary for all Afghans to realize their potential with the aim of transforming their communities. Equipping Afghan people with the necessary skills and resources, HM Mohammed Zaher Shah’s vision of a unified, peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan can be fulfilled through the endeavours of the Zaher Shah Foundation.
A life of great hardship and instability has made survival difficult for many people in Afghanistan. Basic human needs such as food and clothing are often scarce. The Zaher Shah Foundation’s mandate is that of fulfilling basic needs and necessities but – most importantly – to acquire and put in place the productive means to meet the needs of both the present and the future generations in a self-sustainable fashion.
The Foundation supports and firmly believes in educational initiatives that will enhance both domestic and international awareness of the enormous task and what is required to help the people of Afghanistan bring an end to conflict and begin to heal their country.
Prosperity
The Zaher Shah Foundation is committed to reducing poverty in the Afghan community by facilitating microfinance programmes and the establishment of income generating projects. The Foundation funds local small businesses, vocational training and helps to expand commercial channels to facilitate the trade of indigenous products and into foreign markets.
The majority of the funds raised by the Zaher Shah Foundation supports local projects and organisations working in Afghanistan. Our goal is sustainable growth.
Hope
The young people of today are tomorrow’s future. With 65% of Afghanistan’s population under the age of 30, it is imperative that they realise their potential and utilise it to revitalize themselves and their country. The Zaher Shah Foundation believes the support of Afghanistan’s youth to be fundamental to the development of a stable Afghanistan. The Foundation supports its youth by many means such as:
- educational and training opportunities
- cultural awareness
- sports initiatives
